im very new to the import scene, dont have a great budget atm, but would do anything to make this civic faster. pretty sure its a d16y7, model is 98 civic dx, 5speed, if that helps. i have the easy bolt ons, ( header, cold air intake, greddy exhaust) as far as i know, its stock other than those. what can i do to add some horses? Please explain to me as if you were speaking to a child... lol, when changing pistons, cams, injectors, things like that, what all is required to do so?

well, i've never gone too deep into a car, this is my third car, im 20 years old, and i dont really mind how i get the power, i just want some more. I dont mind getting into anything on/in the car, i just havent ever done it on a semi new, import. ive always played with older carb'd cars. im not trying to turn this into a track car, its my everyday driver, but im tired of it being stock-ish, and so lacking in power. i've always wanted to build a motor a little bit more, but have never had the money, or the knowledge ( maybe even the guts) to do it, and im finally ready to make that jump, if its not too terribly expensive.

Your transmission helps out with acceleration. I'm not big into d series but I was told that the tranny from an 92-95 5spd ex has quicker gears than the rest. So that transmission light weight fly wheel and short throw shifter should show some improvment.

well your off to a good start you may want to look into putting a 96-98 ex ecu in your car this well give your car a more aggesive mapping setup and in turn a little more power and a skunk2 stage 1or2 camshaft would be a nother good step the cams on a d-motor is not to hard to do it well keep your valves open longer and let your motor breath better a set of pistons out of a d16a1/d16a6 have a .200 dome which well give you about 10.1 comp. in your motor fuil rails are cheap and easy to do thay let more fuil get to your fuil inj. thats most of the basics a stock d-motor can only handel about 200-220hp so in less you plain to make more than that thares no reson to dig into the block

all the thangs that i put down will make what you alreddy have work much better a motor is just a big (air pump) the more air you move the more power you make

the more air you pull thruw the the motor the more fuil you need
to much air into the motor and you run leen losing power
to much fuil into the motor and you run rich losing power
its kind of a yin and yang thang just enuff of both

He has a D16y7 an ECU from a 96-98 Ex will not add any power. In fact it will cause problems. The Ex motor is a D16y8 with Vtec the D16y7 is nonvtec. If you put a Vtec ECU on a non Vtec car it will set a CEI and run like crap. I think what you ment was to put a P28 ECU from a 92-95 Civic with a Hondata chip for tuning. The P28 is an OBD1 ECU but any Civic OBD1 ECU will work with a Hondata. Getting a tune really helps to make power. You already have IHE get a tune to makes the most of you bolt ons. Or just swap a B18a/b or a B20.
