Background:
Ok,I just joined this site last night because Im not really into the whole B16-bandwagon.Currently I'm running a 98 b20b in my 94 hatch.Ive had alot of friends getting pulled over for nit-pick things and getting they're hoods popped.Since Im in CA this swap isn't legal.Im looking to swap in a B18 get it to pass BAR.And then building it up.

Question:
I want to build something along these lines:
PR3 pistons
Rebuilt head with full crower valvetrain and 3-angle VJ
arp rod bolts
Crower 404 cams
Your basic 160-170whp b18 build coupled with a b16 tranny.

Now the twist...Can I keep my A/C while running a built engine like this?Obviously Im going to lose some power but are there any other negatives?

I appreciate any and all help.
P.S I know the built engine won't pass smog,Ill pick up another b18 to swap in for smog.

I agree about the B16....no torque...LS has more low end balls...

you can def. keep your a/c and p/s. people shave those off for that little bit of weight. only on some turbo'd apps will you be forced to remove the a/c but with your proposed setup you will be perfectly fine.

We can predict your hp but we can't come close to times. when dealing with track times you have so many variables. weather conditions, suspension setups, tires, and most importantly the driver. check around and see what guys with similar setups were doing and compare.

try looking around on dragtimes for a car thats about the same year and look at whats been done and posted. Plus they have a few programs you can play around with to make some educated guesses.

I found a legit b18b out of a 95 ls with the vin and the seller is willing to provide me with a bill of sale,is there any other info i should get from him for BAR?And the tranny that was installed in the car is an s4c,when I bought this car I wasnt't aware that there were vin plates riveted on them and mine is missing this. Are the State Refs going to flip out on this?Im considering trading it for a GSR tranny because I do alot of freeway drving.

I was also wondering if I would have to worry about piston to valve clearance with my set-up.

if you do a lot of highway driving then you may want to keep the LS tranny because the higher 5th gear will keep the RPM's down a little but not as much as people make it sound like and will also save you a little bit of gas but again not much.

I just don't really like the idea of keeping my 7,500rpm redline engine at 4,500rpm just to go 75mph lol.Would a gsr be a good compromise?Or will I be alot slower?
