I just picked up this motor from the local importer... It's a B20B9.

I can't seem to find any info on it. Googled it and it comes back with Russian sites and South American ones, but still not much on the vehicle it came from. It's an odd one with the air filter box on top of the valve cover, the massive giraffe manifold, but has the P8R head.

Anyone? :?:

This is def. not positive what so ever. But i think it came from the 1999-2002 CR-V European edition.

I was thinking CRV, but I didn't think the air filter box would clear the hood. Well maybe... I'll take a pic of the IM later.

wasnt that tall man, i had one of each style IM...

i was always under the impresion that the number after the b20b wasnt important but i dunno, just be happy you got a p8R!

now slap some high CR pistons in there because that low compression is killing you.

I tried looking for the Euro version, but still none had the filter box on top. With the funky U-bend intake arm. It had some other wierd stuff, too.

I'll get some more pics later.

nothing great about the block, its the p8r head that is sought after. as far as the blocks go they are all basically the same just older is 8.8:1 and newer is 9.6:1

call a honda shop and they should be able to tell you with a simple lookup on their computer.

:?: i have no idea what you just said :?:

the p8r head is exactly the same as a LS head except:

it has larger intake valve faces (33mm, the same size as vtec motors) although the valve stem diameter and length is the same size as a LS valve stem.

it also has a 47cc chamber with an 84mm bore vs the 45cc/81mm P75 head. the general chamber shape to me looks better designed as well but it doesnt have as much "extra" chamber that can be milled off like a p75 does.

the intake port volume does seem to be a bit (very small amount) larger than a P75.

everything else is the same though, exhaust valves, valve springs, valve seals, cams, head oiling system, etc.

so in other words its still just as weak as a P75 head as far as higher RPM operation but on larger motors especially with higher lift cams the larger ports/intake valves really help. can support more power than a p75 head but it will still fall short of a b16/gsr head in the sense that it cant be revved as high and cant support larger cams that vtec heads can.

from what i was told before the b20b9 is a 95-96 jdm crv engine. wich has the air filter box like some of the EK civics on top of the maifold. just pull it of and throw an ls mani on it. :D
