Here's my B18B1. Basically I'm building it into a turbo beast, shooting for somewhere in the 400 hp region. Still deciding upon parts lists and etc, all suggestions are welcome.

I'm keeping the LS head with some mods, and I won't be re-sleeving the block either.

On to the eye candy!

Scary trick for removing stubborn camshaft bearing caps...taught to me by a very experienced, slightly crazy technician.

Image

A breaker bar with a pipe on the end of it finally allowed me to loosen six of ten head bolts. However, four were recessed, and required the use of a deep socket, and the pipe over a 3/8" ratchet...this resulted in three...THREE broken ratchets. Just cheap Chinese ones...my good ones stay at work. After I finally ran out of ratchets, I got a little desperate.

Image

Welded the top of this one together to turn a ratchet into a very short breaker bar. This plus the pipe worked great (I'm surprised my weld didn't shatter).

Onward...

Engine turned upside down to start breaking out the bottom end. Bigass windage tray + oil pickup.

Main bearing caps removed

Rear cover/rear main seal removed

Front cover, and oil pump removed

Popped the rod bearing caps off, pulled the crank out

Rods and pistons still chilling in there...

Pistons and rods knocked out through the top of the motor

Pistons and rods.

Most of the nasty crap removed from the crankcase:

Dirty up top but clean down below (that's what she said)

Pardon the poor photography, but it makes my block look so much cleaner than it really is:

Xcellent Post dude. Get some forged pistons and rods to stick around the stock compression if you are planning to boost it.
What kind of boost are you planning to run?

Thank you. I'm really not sure how much boost it's going to need but I am expecting to go upwards of 20 psi. I had been planning to go low-compression but over the past few days I've switched my thinking to stock compression.

Stock compression or a little bit more will yeild better out of boost driveability then a low compression motor and will make more power per psi as well. If your not going to get the head ported I'd try to find a P8R head to stick on there as well as some crower 404's with accompanying valvetrain, and a victor x.

Good post dude. Keep us updated? Boosting your stock compression will give you a better result?
