In CA when you want to put another cars engine into yours and want do it legally you need to have it certified by the state of CA.The engine must be the same year or newer.

the engine being the same year or newer is required by many states. in fact i believe its a federal law. i am sure california is more strict. if you want to know you should go ask some place that does inspections. im sure they could tell you more then anybody on here.
