I was wanting to build a b20, but i didnt know if i would be better building a ls. I was going to put high compression pistons, rods, crower 404 cams in the b20. I was wanting to get some advice to see what would be better. I was also wanting to know witch parts to buy for a ls or a b20. I cant find any b20 parts. Thanks for all the help

I think its safe to say that if you built a B20 w/11:1 compression and the 404's you'd make more power than if you did an LS w/11:1 and the 404's...

That is if you have a competent tuner.

I'd build a B20 in a heartbeat!

BE Sure to replace the rod bolts. Rod bolts are the weakest link.

I have looked more in to it. I dont think im going to build the bottom end on the b20. Would it be safe if I only put the 403 cams, crower valve springs and retainers. Or would it be safer to do those mods to a b18b. Witch ever motor is best im going to do those mods to along with a skunk 2 intake and headers. Thats all the money that I really want to put in to it. So witch one do you guys think would be better for a reliable motor and to be built with those mods. Thanks much for the help.

either one you choose will be safe. For the amount you spend for 403 why not just go with 404.

Until you get to about 8000 RPM then its the floating rockers in the head. Those OEM B-series non vtec rod bolts do suck. I had an all motor B20 with 12:1 JE slugs and ARP rod bolt with 404's and KMS valvetrain and it ran like a top, that is until I knocked a hole in the oil pan on the freeway. :x. I still have the head and its Valvetrain and the 404's are on my turbo motor now!

true. a buddy of mine back in phoenix had a turbo ls... long story short rev limit was set to high and he revved to 76 or 7700 and it popped one of those lifter/followers out... 15 valve FTW... didnt do any damage...

im just putting it out there that b20 sleeves are way thinner than a b18...something you should consider...i think im going to build a b18 all motor non vtec and it going to be 12:1 roughly and i just feel a lot better building a b18 vs. a b20...if the b20 was sleeved then go for it

I think that as long as you were building for NA, and you didn't plan on revving beyond what the head you put on is good to (be it LS or a vtec head, so I'm saying 8500ish rpm), a built B20 with ARP's would hold together just as well as a B18b, and make more power everywhere in the powerband.

If you ever plan on boosting, build the B18b block, the sleeves become a factor above 225whp IMO.
