What's up guys? I have a b20z with an 98 integra type r tranny. I was wanting to see if you guys think I should build it and leave it non vtec or build a b20 vtec. The cars fast now but just getting some opinions. The motor is in a 2000 civic now with a fidanza flywheel and a exedy stage 1 clutch and does awsome. I bascially just want more top end. Thanks

well since this is a non vtec forum i would tell you to build the b20 nonvtec...but i also have a b20/vtec...there is way more potential outta a vtec motor vs. non vtec (all motor speaking)

I want a b20 vtec but don't want to spend over a 4 grand to do it. I would need to get it resleeved. That cost a lot. And another thing is a after I got it built I would have to drive it at least 5 hours to the closet dyno near me. My plans with the b20 were just build the head with stage 2 cams dual valve spring and retainers and port and polish. Then add all the bolt ons on and see what happened. Thanks

-u dont need to get it re-sleeved (keep stock block)
- only costs like 2500 or so to do the b20vtec conversion
- if you put new cams and all the bolt ons on a stock block b20z, you might hit 150/160whp

If you do any cams you will want and need tuning anyways. The B20 block with its low end torque and a high reving Vtec head is a killer combo. All in all if you want to make over 180whp Vtec really is the better and cheaper way to get there. Building a non Vtec motor na to hit 200whp is very pricey but a Vtec head and some stage 2 cams and tuning can get you there. Its all about what you want from the car. I am just doing all the bolt ons and stage 1 cams on my 98 EJ DD with a B18b swap. My Del Sol is getting the full B18a LS Vtec treatment for AutoX. The right mods for the job.

Okay say i went with a b16a2 head. Put skunk2 valves and dual springs and skunk2 retainers in it skunk 2 stage 2 cams a gsr water pump and timing belt and a port job how reliable would this be and how long do you think it will last. how much power should i be making when tuned on hondata s300. I all ready have skunk 2 cam gears, its all ready been converted to obd1 lighten flywheel and i have a stock p28 ecu. Thanks

i had a b20b/vtec with stock gsr cams and made 171whp and 128tq...when i put skunk2 pro 1 cams in it and was tuned by kingmotorsports, i made 200whp and 146tq...i would not put any cam above a stage 2 turner/pro 1 cam from skunk2 b/c you dont have the compression to turn the cam

A B16 head with P&P, stage 2 cams tuned on Hondata will get around 200whp all day. The GSR head is the better head to use though. It has a different shaped combustion chamber making the compression higher than the B16 head. A B20z block, GSR head and 2 layer head gasket will get you a higher compression ratio. The motor you plan to build will have that factory Honda relieablity we all love all will last the life of any Honda motor if done right. As you planned Vtec head, GSR water pump, GSR timing belt, Ls Vtec conversion kit and all will be well. One last thing dont rev the stock bottom end past 8K. ARP rod bolts or even better a block griddel(like the GSR and TypeR have). With ARP rod bolt rev to 9K, with block griddel 10k+.
