I would say you need to get the crank balanced and some sort of duel valve springs that is just a min.. what, you would need to do..

ok i was planning on getting a b20z and building it all motor no f/i, i was also planning on gettin some bc cams and upgrading the retainers/springs. is getting the crank balanced expensive? i want to make power the whole way up to 7krpm. and like i said reliabilty is the main concern.

http://www.laskeyracing.com/shop/cranks.htm $150 for crank balancing is not bad. I went with eagle crank those are about 500 so 150 is not so bad.. with a built motor and some bc cams you will make power all the way up to 7k+ and unless you go with some sort of crazy CR. it will be very reliabilty..

the head could take the rev, its just that the valve sprinsg are a little weaker considering that the OEM motor is setup for automatic and doesnt rev over 6200 on a stock ecu, maybe just change the springs to full LS head setup and keep the rest, the Pr8 head is a plus being that the valves are alot bigger more air more power!

uh, you can rev a bone stock b20 to 7k if you want...

making power there just means you need bigger cams. usually those will warrant better valve springs.

i see no point balancing the crank to rev to 7k. you may be able to balance it for 150 but by taking the engine apart your basically looking at a full rebuild at that point. prolly new bearings, pistons rings, gaskets etc.

i was takin my b20 bottom end to 7500 before i rebuilt my block.

Yes by balancing the rotating assembly you reduce vibrations and increase longevity. Notice I said assembly, your better off making sure that the rods, crank, and pistons are all in balance than just the crank. Especially seeing as you'd have the motor apart anyways.

I would personally say look for a p8r head. As most likely whatever engine you find will have the same head as the rest of the LS lineup.

7k, cams..the stock cams on all nonvtec's are serious dogs when it comes to power. Thats really the key, cams.

Also the B20B and B20Z are twin engines, only the b20z has slightly higher compression due to its pistons.

You'll want to get girdle too, to help shore up the sleeves.

sorry to bring this one back guys but ive been researching prices and specs. and wondering if its really worth the extra 300 for the b20z motor or is the b20b just as good.

it depends on if your going to keep the motor stock or if your gonna put new pistons in right away.

if our gonna build it up then buy whatever, if not then i doubt its too much more for a b20z so get that

ive personally owned and dynoed both s i feel justified saying the b20z is worth it on a close to stock setup.
