leave it on so that you protect it from rocks and stuff getting into the timing belt and such

I took of the cover off the timing belt because I have some adjustable cam gears that just look so freaking cool. Long story short I was driving down the freeway sucked a trash bag in there. Now I just leave the cover on, since its my daily driver, I want no problems.

I an going to weld some sheet to the inside wheel well to help sheild the bottom of the crank pully etc. I'm only going to be on the track (oval). i was hoping that removing the cover might help keep the engine cooler?

theres no gain to not have the cover on, except easy access to redo the timing belt. racing only should be fine with a sheet metal cover, everyday driving, cover it up.
