^ its the switch that is located on your clutch pedal up under the dash...when you push in the clutch, the switch completes a circuit so you can start your car...it will look like a little push button switch

Here is what I would try in this order.
1) battery (make sure voltage ok i think its 14.4)
2) engine fuse (check it with a voltmeter)
3) distributor rotor (make sure contacts ok and not burnt)
4) ignition coil. (check with voltmeter)
5) ignition fuse
6) are your spark plugs in the engine?
6) alarm?? sometimes they have a kill switch. if your battery is low the alarm will not activate

The car will turn without the tranny, you dont need a tranny to start an engine.

Also is your starter turning?
1) If you hear nothing from your starter, then its your battery.
2) If you hear your starter click but not whir then its your starter.
3) If you hear your starter turning, but the engine doesnt run its your fuel system.

let us know when you get the problem resolved

Do you have a fuel pump kill switch? Here is a general diagram for the fuel system.

Good stuff man. It would have been a tragedy to let that car go to the scrapper.
