New Years is over rated. Once you get that puppy running and idling, it will be music to your ears. The sooner the better.

finally got it done. i know i could had it hot tank but its snowing crazy in michigan plus i like doing as much of the works on my car as i can. if anyone else got pictures of them cleaning there motor, post them. oh yeh the cylinder walls rust real quick, but am gonna go to advance autoparts once it opens up and grab a honing tool. i will also soak the block with oil and wd40 so it won't turn white/rust.

glass bead(sandblasting with glass balls) or a wire brush, i usually just run it to the machine shop and let them dip it, doesnt cost much and it will look new. I have found that oven cleaner works great or aircraft paint stripper, when i clean up suspension parts i use aircraft stripper, it eats everything to bear metal in about 15 mins most of the time i dont even have to scrub the parts just let that stuff sit and spray it off it eats right through the stock 20 year old paint, oil, grease, tar, and everything else we drive through.

u can get the stripper at autozone in a spraycan for 5 bucks , 1 can will do an engine and a tranny NOTE: do not get this stuff on you it eats through skin as well, it will eat right through rubber gloves too, ive never sprayed it on n e thing but metal, i doubt wires and soft plastics will survive its wrath, and if it touches the paint on your car kiss it goodbye

Its in a spray can a little taller than spray paint, called aircraft stripper, it will be back there with the spray paint
