I alwase like to have this link around.

http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16537

On another forum and a well respected member of the honda community jlicrx, owner of zcspeed.com had this to say.

Quote:
well, stock it is only 130hp - due to the additional 100lbs or so that you will be adding with the B18 engine, tranny, etc. the stock engine is not going to be much quicker than your Si - unless you convert it to LS-VTEC, it is kind of a dog - there are several D-series engines that make just as much power, and essentially bolt right into your car without having to buy the transmission, mounts, shift linkage, axles, etc. required for the B-series engine - some of those engines are the JDM D15B VTEC, JDM SOHC ZC VTEC,
JDM DOHC ZC non-VTEC, USDM D16Z6 VTEC and USDM D16Y8 VTEC - these all have 130hp and don't add any weight to your car, except for the DOHC ZC which adds less than 15lbs.

Torque huh...

To quote big tuna, who holds the second fastest notec D series title.

Its not about power, its the curve. D's have a power band that is very broad and usually looks like a hump. Compared to a B that is usually allot more "peaky". A lower hp D can be faster it makes more power on average the entire gear, compare to a B that will only make more power on very top of a gear. Hence the reason why peak numbers are garbage. Its all about the curve...

But really it is ultimately up to you how you wish to spend your money but IMO get a cheap D16, freshen it up a bit and toss some bolt ons on it and have a fun little car.

Granted alot of the torque is coming from the displacement of the ls motor, but the ls motor loses like 50 horse after what 5600 or so rpms?

You could do a minime and get some higher compression to make up for the lack of displacement.

i'm not concerned with highend speed. my concern is low to mid range power. i want to get in and out of traffic and off exits. i also like curves rather then light to light. i'm looking for which one has the better tq
curve for me. i can get a si trany for 50 bucks and may find a d16 for cheep, i/h/e see how i like it and if it don't suit then when money allows swap the ls. how would you sugjest i go about getting a good tq curve out of the d16. what and where would the numbers be ?

Numbers would be up to you tune and such, what good is throwing parts at a car and not make full use of them?

Personally I would get a d16(your choice) used JRSC, toss the fmu out the window and get a real tune, that would give you excellent low and mid torque and pull all the way to red line, but if your wanting more N/A aspect peep this.

WHAT IS JRSC AND FMU? AS FAR AS THE D16 ARE YOU TALKING A VTEC
OR ANY D16? I FOUND A D16 W/SI TRANY FOR 150 NONVTEC. IF THIS WORKS THEN I'LL GO THIS ROUTE TO SEE FIRST IF I LIKE A DMOTOR TO STAY WITH OR GO THE LS ROUTE.I HAVE A 91 INTEGRA I GOT JUST FOR THE E/B SWAPS.

ive got a 91 4dr two - ive owned a teg with a b18a1 and in less you play on building the b18 from bottom up or at most puting a cam in it your best to go with the d16 the parts are cheaper and the d16 is lighter and makes almost the same power stock but the b18 can take the boost and has more parts on the market its a flip of a coin thing
:banghead
(in the long run if the teg is only $700 it would be a good move but you would still have to get some swap parts but the d16 for the most part will just drop right in)
