riddle me this.

new thermostat, properly bleeded coolant. when engine goes to temp, rad fan turns on and shuts off when coolant has cooled enough. second time it comes on it doesn't shut off as long as the engine is idling.

coolant overflows to the reservoir, and when cold it goes back to the level i set it. no oil in coolant, no milky stuff. same when i take he oil cap off and peep inside.

spark plugs aren't covered in oil or any liquid.

compression is healthy in every cylinder (230 psi or so)

if i start the engine without the rad cap, water doesn't gush or splash. if i rev the engine, you can see the coolant moving.

still it overheated today after 45 mins of driving at 20mph tops (we were up and downs streets checking for aptmts for rent)

so, what could be happening?

took the old rad cap to the dealership, and the counter guy said that even when it looked healthy it was on the way out. the outer seal was still good, but the inner seal was brittle, so that maybe was the reason behind the overheat issue.

fast forward to an hour ago, i left the engine idle for about 45 mins. all that time the rad fan came on when it needed to cool the water, and shut off when done. not like before when the rad fan came on for the second time, it didn't shut off as long as the engine was running.

still i need to run it around and see if it doesn't overheat. but my hope is that yes, the overheat is a done issue and i don't have to deal anymore with it.

tested the new rad cap.... and it overheated. again.

rad fan was on, coolant is green, no bubbles, no foam.

i listened to the engine, and there was a very faint high pitched noise, very faint to the ear. also it wasn't continuous, it came and went. it came from the water pump area.

water pump?

try the radiator sometimes if it clogged inside it will cause it to overheat

Wonder if the parts store sold you the wrong tstat(too high?)

Perhaps your cooling system is too wimpy for your climate?

Careful with it until you get her straight, don't need to be frying the head gasket or warping the head!

t-stat is.correct, it corresponds to the part nbr.

it seems that the radiator is the culprit... 23 yrs of service must have killed the poor thing, lol. it also is a single row, so it needs a very much needed replacement.

yeah, i'm on foot until my new update *hint hint* arrives at my door.

passenger side front brake caliper was done. at first i wanted to rebuild it, but then i decided that it was easier to just replace both calipers.

hatch now brakes on a fucking dime.

i also got this:

a set of 89 civic Si seats. dirty as fuck, but otherwise in a fine shape. i'm currently undergoing a seat pan swap so i can put them in my 88 also will clean them this weekend.

i wish i knew... i've found out because of the rattling sound it made.

but to be honest, beaks bar is shit for hardparking only.

finally got both rear calipers.

waiting for saturday to come so i can put them in and enjoying some real needed brakes.

pics when done.
