Can anyone confirm the difference between the B18B and B20B cams? I found some specs at BrianCrower.com and I want to know if anyone has experience between the two.

http://www.briancrower.com/makes/honda/b18ab18b.shtml

USDM B18B1 (’92-’00)
274°/278° 183°/184° .393"/.380" 9.98/9.65

USDM B20B (’97-’98)
278°/276° 190°/194° .397"/.382" 10.08/9.70

Thanks,
Dave

from what ive seen b20b cams are smaller but b20z cams are bigger so i dunno if i would trust those specs as being correct for those specific years.

seriously b20b cams are tiny... b20z cams however are pretty decent for OEM. they are are too small to make power though and should be upgraded asap

the LS B18B cams have the aggressive high end for any non vtec head build, the b20 camshafts produce a lil more torque on the band but we always tell our customers to stay with the B18B camshafts if can.

When will someone measure the lift/duration of a set of OEM B18A/B18B and B20B/B20Z cams?

i measured the lift of b20z and b20b cams, intake only

b20b 8.9mm
b20z 10.0mm (wich matched crowers specs for b18b)

i cant measure duration easily though.

dont know if you all agree. i have had lots of non vtec B series. from obd0 to obd1 to obd2. they all ran better with 90-93 ls cams. the r1's. the quickest time i had with my b20 was 15.4. dont remember my speed. that was with ls cams. my fastest time with the b 20's was like 16.3. but our track is also shitty here in northeast tenn.

I measured the following on my B20B before retiming the cams for reverse rotation:

All measurements were at the valve. Lash was set to 0.007 inch on intake and 0.009 inch on exhaust.

Intake:
Peak lift = 0.332 in (8.43 mm)
IO: 5.0 deg ATDC @ 0.010 in lift
IC: 39.0 deg ABDC @ 0.010 in lift

IO: 19.5 deg ATDC @ 0.050 in lift
IC: 24.0 deg ABDC @ 0.050 in lift
Duration = 184.5 deg @ 0.050 in

LCA = 112 deg ATDC

Exhaust:
Peak lift = 0.356 in (9.04 mm)
EO: 46.0 deg BBDC @ 0.010 in lift
EC: 3.0 deg BTDC @ 0.010 in lift

EO: 31.5 deg BBDC @ 0.050 in lift
EC: 18.0 deg BTDC @ 0.050 in lift
Duration = 193.5 deg @ 0.050 in

LCA 115 deg BTDC

Note that there is NO Exhaust-to-Intake overlap.

Regards,
vwbased
