Hi

What is your opinion on dyno tuning vs tuning on the road. You will be using Innovative Wideband LM1

I've never tuned a car before but have seen it done. I really don't have a preference. Each tuner has their own way of tuning the car to the best of thier ability. I had my old Ls tuned on a dyno. I know that one of the best tuners in the east, Jeff Evans, uses street tuning to tune his cars. I asked him one time why he used that method and he told me that he can get a more accurate reading.

I heard an interesting theory on street tuning...I mean if the car is going to be driven on the street, then it somewhat makes sence to street tune it....

you cant tune for power on the street unless you use a accelerometer or plot RPM vs time to calculate acceleration.

street tuning is good because you can fully tune for a desrired air fuel ratio under full and part throttle. street tuning doesnt give you much in the way of ignition tuning or cam gear tuning.

dyno tuning is good because you can tune for the optimal AF ratio for your engine to make power but mostly only full throttle but often times you cant tune part throttle well so you may still need to do street tuning after your done. you can however tune cam gears and ignition.

ideally in a perfect world were you owned a dyno and a wideband/full datalogging setup you would street tune the carfor idle/part throttle then slap it on the dyno do your full throttle runs set your cam gears and ignition maps then take it back out on the street and redo your part throttle and maybe take a look at full throttle and see how it compares to the dyno runs. if say your running a tad leaner or richer than the ideal AF ratio that you got on the dyno then you could go back in and retune the top end.

from my experience i had my car tuned just on the dyno at full throttle and my car ran really good under full throttle but it sucked gas like no other at part throttle and daily driving...my friend got his car tuned at extreme parts and they have a new dyno that you can put a load on for partial throttle tuning and daily driving...its pricy but its worth it

Thank you for the responses. You have raised aspects of street tuning that I had over looked.

thanks
