i recently got my hands on both a b18a1 (OBD1) motor with a p75 (OBD2) head. My car is a 4 door 1996 civic lx which is automatic and i have a goal of converting it to manual and turboing this engine to a minimum of 300whp or more. My major concern is if it would be bad to use this b18a1 engine in my obd2 car because of the extra work in having to convert the car down to a OBD1? Would i be better off trying to trade someone this motor for a b18b2 (OBD2) and save some wiring issues? what kind of advantages/disadvantages will i have in doing the obd switch for my specific car? searched up and down the net and found plenty of info on the diff between the motors just nothing relevant to my EK 4dr auto,
thanks

To convert your b18a , covert the oil pump to a obd 2 oil pump with a crank angle sensor or by pass it on the ecu that way you don't have to worry about converting it. Change out your injectors to obd 2 injectors, add a couple of sensors, switch out the distributor to a obd2 or get a conversion adaptor harness (lmk I can make those)

well im assuming i was going to need bigger injectors anyway since i want to turbo so that takes care of the obd2 injector issue as far as the crank angle sensor from which engine will i be needing one from ? That way when i search i know what i am looking for, and as far as adding "a bunch of sensors" what kind of sensors we talking about here? lastly, if i get a full msd ignition system would that take care of the whole needing an obd2 distributor problem? thanks alot for your help so far i just want to make sure that working with this obd1 b18a1 isnt a load of unnecessary work and trading for a b18b isnt the 100% better way to go

This is kind of a vanity thing but I would also get a newer model Valve cover and intake manifold since the older B18A's kinda look outdated in a newer body style. just my 2 cents.

You can use the crank angle sensor from a obd 2 b18b motor or b20b.
On the b18a the fan switch sensor is on the back of the block while the obd2 motor is on the thermo housing. Also you will need to add in a purge solenoid, but that should be on the intake manifold, all you got to do is rewire it. No msd will just give it more spark. It has nothing to do with the oem plugs. All msd will do is tap into the wires of the distributor. If your trading, that's up to you, just giving you my input

well like i mentioned i have an obd2 valve cover that came with the p75 head and so far from what you guys have posted the conversions stuff doesnt sound like its a horrible amount of work, from what i have read the b18a1 block and b18b block are basicly identical if stripped to the bone just the minor diffrences is what you guys have told me i need to change in order to covert to obd2
