I’m new to this Honda stuff. Just spent the weekend reading the forums
I have a 92 civic HB DX D15b7 5spd. Engines smoking badly. Want to race it oval track. What would be the best swap. Track rule is NO VTEC, NO TURBO, NO HEADERS, NO JDM. They look at the stamp on the block (not to be changed. right) I'm not afraid to put in a non vetec jdm. I'll make it look like the d15b7.
Trying to understand all this (old school chevy 350) ecu, dizzy, trany matching stuff. Would like to find something that would drop in with as little headache or should I pull the engine and up comp, ad a cam?
I’m so lost now.

are you saying that the stamp on the block has to match the model year of the car? if you want a powerful d series engine go with the d16z6 from a 90-95 civic si. They have the best airflow out of any d series engine, including the d16y8. Get some rods, rod bolts, cams, adjustable cam gear, pistons, and a thinner head gasket, port polish with a good tune and you'll be pushing 160 WHP. Can you swap for a b18? they have a higher threshhold and cost about the same for a build.

But isn't the d16y8 a vtec?
What about the d15b jdm I found some carbed ones cheap. Could I use just the long block and switch over from my d15b7 dizzy, mpfi intake and sensors. Then I could build up the d15b7.

Would a ZC sohc work. It looks like it would be a big power gain and only cost about $500. That would give more time and money to build the D15B7. I doubt they will check the numbers if the look and see it looks the same. I've seen them teck (more bark then bite) Most of the time they come by to see if it has VTEC on it.
