i am trying to replace my fuel filter and the hard line on the bottom of it is not wanting to come loose. who ever the guy that owned the car before me had change the filter the first time looks to have rounded off that nut. i have tried a flare nut wrench and regular wrench and is it not working. can somebody tell me what size i should use to make sure i am using the right size for it? i am pretty sure that i am because its the only flare nut wrench i have that will fit it and it fits really good on it. another question is i traced the hard line back to underneath the car. i am wondering if that line ends somewhere under the car inside of that plastic cover or does it keep on going? another question is can i find a new line that is already bent, and how much will it cost?

go to sears and get a set of these...there alittle on the pricey side but hey i dont ever have to worry about or get pissed off about a stripped bolt head. altho you should also get another bano bolt cuz once you use these the bolt is no longer good.. i think this set from sears cost 21.99 and i think its craftsman..

as im sure your not a dumb ass when it comes to cars. but you take the one that fits the tightest on bolt head. and put a wrench on the other end of it. as you turn to loosen it the flares on the inside dig into the bolt..YOU WILL GET THE BOLT OFF..i know when i replaced my fuel filter, i had to hold and push the filter in the other direct then the way i was turning it. but it came off. these tools in the pics i have used 1,000,000,000,000 on everything from cars to lawn mowers to at my job and i build staircases.. well worth the money to any one..

that is not what i was talking about. i was talking the line on the bottom that has the nut on it and it screws on. you are thinking of the bolt on the top of the filter.

i had thought about vise-grips but i dont want to damage it anymore then it already is. that is why i thought i could maybe go with a new line but i do not want to have to bend 1 myself so i was hoping i could find 1 that is already bent but i guess a junk yard would be my best bet for that.

new line from honda is like $50 I think it goes all the way back to the gas tank - if it's the line I'm thinking of (you mean the hardline that comes into the bottom of the fuel filter - ie the fuel feed line).

It'd be a little bit of a PITA to change out, but no biggy.

The fuel filter is always a little tricky thanks to the crappy mount that it sits on that tends to move around a lot.

yes nathan that is the line i am talking about. now is the line from honda already bent? and what some tips to hold the filter steady while trying to turn it. i am hoping to try it again at least a few more times before i go pay $50 for a line that i might not end up having to get. especially since i am on an extremely tight budget. i feel i could maybe get the nut to turn if i could keep the filter from moving.

sorry about that. i thought DC's had the same set up or very close to it of a DA. DA's have both lines on top of the filter..

if its a hard line like a brake line. you can cut it and go get 1 foot peice of brake line from autozone. it would take 3 fittings to reconnect everything. for about 2 months i had one of my brake lines connected that way. then i just got bored enough to rebend the whole damn line. hope that helps ..

thanks man. that does help. i also found that line nathan was talking about from Honda and i may just go with that because it looks as if its already bent. but im hoping i do not have too but that nut might be beyond useable from the guy who had the car before and then from me using a flare nut wrench which is supposed to keep from rounding off nuts like that but is not working that way for me this time when i really need it to. what should be new though this seems to be what happens every time i try to work on honda.

i feel your pain.

it used to be like that for me but i have since got better tools. easy outs, the stripped bolt removers in the pics above, and one big ass can of wd40.

if i am worried about a stuck bolt i start spraying wd40 a few days before i am set to work on my car..

its not really bolts that are the problem for me. it is other crap. yes this does happen sometimes but its mainly when i did my ball joints, and other stuff like that. i have a set of bolt removers but prefer not to use them unless i have nothing else that can get it off or the bolt is too stripped to get anything else on it. and they would not help me in this case.

anyway... would using something like WD40 or PB Blaster be alright to use for that nut on the fuel line? if so then i may try some that and try it again with the wrench before i go buy a new line. i do not think that nut should be this tight, or else the top bolt was lose because just after a little bit of pushing on that top bolt it loosened up. but it was lined up with a black line so im thinking it was tightened down to how it should have been but there is nothing on the bottom like so i am unsure if it should be this tight or not.

if you are referring to a bolt out set i can not use them on the bottom line which is the fuel feed line. it is impossible to even dream of getting 1 on the nut because its a female connector going onto the fuel filter and has the line going through the middle of it.

ya and i said that it would mess the bolt up and could not be reused since a) its stripped and b) its prolly stuck on there to. if you use those on a bolt that is seriously stuck. it will mess them up. besides i figure if you have to use them. then the bolt needs to be replaced.

then i realized he has a DC integra and i have a DA its a different set up..

hahaha i own page 2

I don't mean to bring this thread from the dead but I would like to know if he was able solve his fuel filter problem successfully. Similar problem here
