I currently have a b18b motor in my 95 teg ls. I either want to put a H22 in it or buy a new b18b to put into it. I want to turbo whatever new motor i put in the teg and was wondering a few things....

1) which motor would be better to turbo.

2) What would a H22 swap entail, the kits and conversion i would need to make.

3) Which motor would give me more bang for my buck

anyone who has an opinion on the matter or can answer my questions would help greatly.

Budget

DD / Track ?
Do you want to run AC?
H22 is a big engine, makes turbo a tighter fit. We have an H22 turbo civic in Houston that is said to put out something crazy like 800hp! LS turbos can be daily driven reliably for less $, better mileage with enough horsepower for any reasonable daily use. My friend runs a CR-X stock GSR shortblock /B16 head turbo dynoed @ 450hp and gets 10 miles to the gallon with it! Too much power = traction problems. If you get too crazy with it, you have to build it to fail in the least destructive/ expensive way... (i.e. axles go before tranny, etc.) B series gear is plentiful and should be cheaper. If you kill an LS engine, it's much less expensive than an H22... 8)

definetly needs to be a daily driver, and ac would be nice, as far as a budget i could set any amount i wanted but i know ill end up spending more than i want to. i just dont want to pour my limited income into something that can be achieved for less money and more reliability.

well i have heard that the H22 does not handle boost well. i also doubt you could keep AC with a turbo H22.

Moved topic. The topic had not major focus on a b series engine nor an h series...

For future reference "which motor is better" threads should be posted in the General Tech. Section.

Thanks...

B ALL THE WAY?!!!!

For a budget car with good reliability, just throw together a low pressure small/medium size turbo setup. You can still keep your AC if you get the right kind of manifold, and with most of your money spent tuning the car, reliability won't be a problem. You can easily have more power than you know what to do with on a stock block B18 with a little boost.

The H22 can handle enough boost on the stock block to get most people into some serious trouble. 350-400whp can be done without much difficulty.

Thats really what im looking for. Putting a lot of boost into a car isnt what i want to do. Just enough to make a difference will do for me. If i had a different car to drive and was able to work on this freely then things would be different.... Looks like ill buy a new B18 soon then. Thanks for all the input.

You say some boost will make you happy. I said I'd be happy witha stock block LSVTEC and Im not. I want more. Just like you will if you boost the LS or even the H22.
