Hey everyone I was doing some research and I found this site hope some one can give me some advice. I have a 1992 Honda civic dx with a D15B7 engine. about a year ago the car over heated, white smoke started shooting out the back, I'm guessing its the head gasket, but not 100% sure. The car still turns on, but I don't really drive I move it once in a while so I wont get a ticket but that is it. I was thinking about changing the head gasket, the spark plugs and wires, and the radiator fan. Since I'm going to take the head off I was just thinking about switching to a D16Z6 head. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea since I have an automatic not sure if that would work. I'm not looking to build a race car just want a little bit more out of it. If any one can help me build a shopping list that would be greatly appreciated.

the d-series vtec head really wont give you much more power...just higher rpms by a little. I would honestly try and get a swap for cheap with a manual tranny (b-series of course) and go from there...a stock b18b (nonvtec) swap will be a lot faster than the setup u got

A d series motor is the underdog of the honda engines. You can definitely get some power in there. The max is about 160 whp with a stage 3 cam and new internals. Since you have an automatic its not worth it upgrading your engine, you will just break your transmission in a few months. Unless you want to invest in a manual transmission, keep it stock.

Check out this guide to D series engines. Its the best I have seen on the net. http://www.d-series.org/forums/engine-building/21761-building-powerful-street-na-d16y8-z6.html
