Many thanks to the folks who responded to my intro post.

With a new thermostat it seems to be running perfectly now.

On another note, I have an irritating fault which is probably common to this model. 1991 J reg 1.6i 16v. After stopping to get fuel it sometimes won't start again until I've waited for about 5 mins. Is this a sensor to do with fuel supply when apparently hot or something.....and if it is , is this easy to fix?

that has happened to me as well...usually i reset the ecu and disconnect the battery and it starts right up after that...not sure on the actual problem though
