okay i started with a 91 civic hatch dx that i picked up for $300 and have a bet with a friend that i can hit a 13.9 for under $1000 bucks ,car and all , here is how it is going so far
car -$300
sold wheels off car +$150
junkyard LS swap engine trans manifolds accessories harness axles knuckles and brake calipers and ecu from 93 integra, all came to -$475
hasport mounts from a buddy -$175
ok so now i am up to $800 and want to see what else any one thinks will get this car under 14s without breaking the bank ,oh it also is gonna have intake header and a custom exhaust that i have layin at the shop, any advice would be greatly appreciated

i mean if you want you could try to get an LS swap for cheap and just spray it a lil w/ like a hondata s200 system or something...you might go over budget though...

If you only got $200 left the only hope you got is to find a CHEAP used nitrous kit. Obviously it can be done easier if you blow the budget, but then you lose the bet.

Is he gonna pay for the whole project in full? That is the only logical bet I can think of. But does the thing even have wheels on it? Anyways I like the idea good project going there. I would really love to see some pics.

I guess spray and some good tires. But the amount of spray needed is not going to make that motor last too long LOL. I wanna see where this goes.....

Also, as light as it may already be, you need to COMPLETELY GUT IT!!! Every interior piece but the driver seat...other seats, headliner, trim panels, console, carpet, a/c if it has it, radio, etc...all of it. What's on the line here anyways?

ok so i decided to take it to the track to get a baseline with just a stock ls swap, full interior junk 14 inch street tires and no exhaust
best pass of two was like this
r/t 1.044
60' 2.488
330 6.712
1/8 10.1 @72 mph
1000 13.085
1/4 15.5 @91 mph
that was taking off easy in first to keep the tires under it and feathering it out in second still fighting the tires , it was pretty fast at the other end of the track so now it is time to lighten it and get some better tires
i will post some pics when i get a chance

yeah man i would have never found it if i was looking for it but it popped up and i couldnt pass up the chance to build an ls hatch and go drag racing for next to nothing
ok i am going back to the track tonight for test and tune to see what she can do , since last week i have pulled the carpet which was wet underneath and weighed about 200 pounds ,backseat, pass seat and spare tire ,i fabbed up some makeshift 2.5" exhaust with just a resonator and it feels like i got all the torque back over having an open manifold and i have two different sets of tires to try, i am hoping to hit at least a 14.5 on this setup

if its just for bragging rights and you don't need the car afterwards. You can make maybe a few passes with hella spray and make it. But after that shes gonna go kaboom. you can't tune it because a hondata will send ya over the budget. Reduce as much weight as you can. get that car down to its skibbies and spray if you choose.

well i did not make it to the track but i did make progress , i sold the head unit amp and speakers for 150 bucks and bought a used NITROUS system that was used as an intercooler sprayer for 200 so that leaves me with 50 bucks to spare to get the remaining parts that i need which is only jets and some lines ,i am new to nitrous but its all good cause i have a spare motor in the garage so if it goes BOOM it will only take an afternoon and a case of beer to be up and running again

ok its gettin closer to my goal , i made five passes on friday night and my worst run of the night was a 15.1 at 91 mph but i am a lot closer than last time with my best run of the night being like this
r/t .733
60' 2.144
330 6.194
1/8 9.523 at 74.1 mph
1000 12.384
1/4 14.831 at 93.5 mph
so i am really happy with the progress considering i am on a bone stock motor and suspension and i didnt gut the whole car yet , just the pass seat and back seat and apare tire , the tires really helped but there was still some wheelspin and more room for improvement there ,i am trying to peice the nitrous kit together but i am going to see how fast i can get it all motor first

ok so i tried some different tires with about the same result , lots of wheelspin but i got another 2.1 60' and 14.8 @93 mph , looks like its time to do some more lightening ,and now i have some more parts since the dirt track teg is all mashed up. so now the hatch gets an 8lb flywheel stage 2 exedy clutch and CTR single belt crank pulley all as freebies because it was in the bet that i could use any parts that i already had ,that should get me to a low 14 ........................we shall see
