 Post subject: LS with gsr tranny

Ive driven a bone stock LS, and the gears didnt seem that bad. I driven an LS with a b16 tranny, but i didnt like the gears being to short because i do alot of free way driving and i hate being at a higher rpm for like 1 hour. So i was thinking of a gsr tranny, but i never driven one.. Anyone with experince driven a LS with gsr tranny? Hows the gear ratios? long/short? Ive herad it was a mix but im still confused..

have your ls 5th gear installed in a b16 or gsr tranny. that was my plan, untill my imput shaft bearing went out. i ended up having to have my ls tranny fully rebuilt.

I have a GSR trans in my car and I love the gearing as opposed to the LS trans. The third in the LS trans is just too much for me. Instead of shifting into 4th @90 I shift into 4th @ 80.

I vote for LS 5th in B16/Cable gsr trans.

It wont be as long as the 5th in the LS trans becuase of the different f/d.

I have the GSR tranny on my LS, I like it. A good balance overall imo for the stock engine, but if you put cams in or do something to raise redline (and still make power) the gearing will still be nice.

either way you will be running a higher rpm on the highway. swapping out the 5th gear in a trans could be more money pending if a shop does it. If you're really looking to do this you will just have to put up with running around 4 grand at 75mph.

the b16 is the best for nonvtec get up, but if you want the freeway gas push the gsr is better and just so u dont lose the rpm get up go with a 8lbs flywheel.

yea im runnin a gsr trans on my ls...and my ls is boosted...the gear ratios are still real nice...not too long and not too short

jdm itr is pretty nice, it has a gsr 4th and 5th but the 4.785FD. nice 1-3 with a less aggressive 4-5 for highway...

personally i have a usdm itr (same gears as b16) with the jdm final drive and its real short. great for under 60 but over 60 is teh suck

buy a car with a 6spd, or get an automatic. bottom line, high rpm's are a fact of highway driving.

I am a PITA so I put a LS 5th in my GSR trans. I think it acts like it belongs in there in the first place. I would put a GSR 5th in a B16 type gearing tranny because I think the difference from the b16 4th to the LS 5th is just too wide.

the rpm drop would be insane from an ls to a b16. the gearing is not a whole hell of a lot shorter through the first two gears. third gear is the biggest difference. if you can, swap the 5th and you will love highway driving just as much as speeding through the first three gears.

I have a GSR tranny with an LS 5th and a ITR LSD in it for sale....for everyone else it is 1 million bucks...for Ghetto..well...yeah 1 million to you too. Sometimes I wish I just bought a ITR tranny and put a LS 5th in that. Oh well...
