Ok this is one of those wtf?! problems. I've already decided to sell my car but I'm screwed because the main relay keeps burning out!

Heres the deal the car has sat in my garrage for over a year while I worked on other projects and was just buisy in general. So I decided well its about time to let someone else take over with it. Well I go to start it and it wont start so Im thinking no crank = dead battery. (And yes I fired it about once a month while it was in cold storage) So I start charging the battery and I get a click noise at start up. No big deal there was some corrosion on the ground points clean them up and it turns over just fine. But doesnt fire. I check spark and that was fine, which leads me to the fuel system. This is where the confusion begins.

It has a stock fuel system, except for a fuel rail (for looks) and a walboro in tank pump 255gph. So I put the key in position 2 and at first the fuel pump would precharge, but after starting the engine it would shudder and die. After that I put it back in position 2 and the pump didnt precharge. So at first I was thinking the pump went bad so I tested it by jumpering the pins at the main relay and it fires right up.

So I figured the relay was kicking over so I bought a new relay, the car runs I pull it around to the front of the house to put the for sale sign on it and let it alone for the night. Next day go out to restart it and same problem, no fuel pump at position 2 no fire, but the car does turn over and spark. So at this point Im confused about what could cause a surge in the relay when everything checks out fine.

Its a 95 honda del sol, with a b20b in it now.
I have shot the wires, they check good, no shorts between wires. I checked for the voltages at position 2 an startup on the plug for the main relay and they are good. And the car ran fine just a day before. So basicly Im still selling the car and taking a huge hit on it, but I wont give up till its actually gone and any input would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

had a prob like that on my 91 si last year. i could never pinpoint the prob. so i ran a hot wire from an auxilury switch that comes on when the car comes on. what the car was doing was runnin for like 2 mins at the most then shut off. try to crank it up and it wouldnt start. let it sit for about 15 mins. it would start for about 2 mins again. shut off again. never got to the bottom of the prob. so i ran the wire from under the backseat to a spot on my fuse box. been running every since then. and i didnt have this problem till i put a venom pump in. but thats the best i can help. good luck

Yeah the only thing that comes to mind is the fuel pump is somehow overloading the relay. But Ive installed the same pump in friends cars and theyve never had a problem. Its one of those ghost in the shell deals.

Here is the answer to your main fuel relay. It is a bad solder joint. Remember it also powers the injectors. ( there are two relays in the box)
this will tell you how to fix it.
