I have really mixed feelings. If I undetstand nascar correctly, everybody gets different sized restrictor plates, and their motors have to be at almost the same specs(and the cars overall seem to be really similar specs, aerodynamics, gearing, esuspension componetry,et) so whomever got the good restrictor plate has the best chance?
they all get the same size restrictor plate but they are only ran at Daytona and Talladega. for gearing there are so many different gears that use and so many different combinations. its really easy to miss the gearing for the track you are at. go to low and you wont have the top speed you need at say Daytona or Talladega and at a track like Martinsville or Bristol if you go with to high of a gear you wont get off the turns and the people with the proper gearing can take off up out of the turns. and for the suspension it is extremely easy to mess all that up. it also depends upon the driver and how they want the car to handle. but to soft of springs may cause the car to bottom out in a turn and could cause them to wreck. to stiff of a spring in front when at a track like Martinsville when they brake for the turn the nose might not get low enough to the track which would hurt the front downforce.
on track like Daytona and Talladega it comes down to best driver, best engine, best aerodynamics, and the correct set up and who can keep out of the "Big One".
the engines are not the same at all. they all have different Cubic Inches and some builders are able to get more horsepower out of the engine they have then other builders. some engines can have a difference of 10 hp and those guys buy engines from teams that have proven that they have high horsepower engines for Daytona.
