Hello all, new here, dont know much about tuning cars. BUt wish to learn more. Have a 97integra Ls. 99% stock. I want a little extra acceleration without addition of turbo. What is the best way? not looking to race, but just need that extra speed sometimes to get on the freeway quicker. Also, how come they dont make replicas window visor for the 97integras coupe?

If you want quicker acceleration get rid of some unsprung weight. Get 11 lb rims and get a 7 lb fidanza flywheel. Start off with that and you will feel the difference. I reduces the equivelant of 400 lbs of sprung weight off your car.

If you want other mods for more power get your rods shot peened, arp rod bolts, thin gasket, crower stage 2 cams, with springs and retainers and an aggressive tune and you will add about 40 whp. Hope that helps.

thanks you for your suggestions. I am actually using a 10lb exedy flywheel with stage 1 clutch. Rpm rev faster, but MPG when way down. :-( I used to get 300miles with 10gal with the car completely stock, and only 230miles with 10gal after the mod. I heard is because of the flywheel have less inertia which requests more gas to maintain the speed. Is that true?? I am using HX rims right now too so the weight is already reduced When you talk about sprung weight, what does it mean? seats? spare tire? tell me what i can rip out of my car but sit a 4 seater PLz. thank you again.

Simply a lighter flywheel is going to store less kinetic energy because it takes less to get revved up. Since it takes less energy and it is lighter, there is less angular momentum that is stored as energy in the lightened flywheel. In the case of a car, a lighter flywheel will rev the engine to 8000 rpm a lot quicker than a heavier flywheel, but it will drop the rpm a lot quicker also because there is less angular momentum stored in it.

Say, for example, that a 10 lb flywheel takes 3 hp to rev to 4k rpm and a 18 lb flywheel takes 5hp to rev to 4k rpm, the heavier flywheel will store more energy because it took more energy to begin with. It will "cruise" at a higher rpm longer because it has that extra 2 hp in force applied to it. According to physics, less energy exerted is less energy taken to begin with. A light flywheel will actually save you energy or in this case mpg.

The lost mpg is due to something else, may a heavier foot? Heres a good guide I added that lists a couple of things that you can do to reduce weight in your car
