Welcome frank. I love hatches. H22 is a powerful engine and can be a lot of fun with suspension mods. Expect to pay around $5,000 for everything you'll need to put the engine in the car. You can do it for cheaper around $3000 but it takes months of searching in craigslist for the right parts. Dont forget all the small things you need to buy also. People often forget to factor in all the stuff that goes along with installing a new engine. Fluids, gaskets, belts, spark plugs & wires, replacement of various broken sensors, new clutch and flywheel, piping to mate the new exhaust manifold to the existing exhaust system, and intake , and more. They are pretty minor things, but they are needed and do add up. Transmission, ECU, aftermarket mounts, shifter cables and the shifter assembly, aftermarket axles or custom axle combinations, adding wires and extending wires of the existing engine harness and upgraded suspension (shocks & springs/coilovers/sway bars). If you aren't comfortable enough to do the swap then you need to pay someone to do it for you. Also you will need to do some minor cutting in the shifter area of the car. If you are a do it yourselfer and you have a another car than this is a great mod.
A B18 swap with upgraded internals will be around the price you are looking and produces similar results as a stock H22. Check out my writeup in the B series section of this forum.
Thanks for all the info. very helpful. my second thought was a b18b as u said with bolt on's and internals. i was wondering, should i go b18b or b20vtec(sorry for the smash) and should i buy the head and block and build it? i have a friend that will build my motor for $220 all i have to do is supply the parts. i think if i buy the block and head and buy aftermarket parts i will have a nice all motor build... but honestly i have no idea all the things i have to buy to get it ready. i know i need the block head pistons springs, retainers rods, crank etc.
