Hello from Chile my english is not good.
I have a B18B with:
I/H/E
Performer X IM
ITR TB
P30 Pistons
B16 Tranny
Crower 62404
Crower Valve Spring

I am not sure about the ti retainers. Some guys tell me that the oem retainers are fine for the street use.

What do you think?

I would recommend using Crowers retainers with their springs. However if youre trying to save some coin, call crower and see if their spring will work with OEM retainers. I'm not sure if there's a difference in design, but I sure wouldn't want to learn the hard way.

Post up some dyno results when it's tuned.

I would also use crower, Since your using 404's I would upgraded it. Oem retainer can only take so much beating before it give.

Thanks, I forget to say, Now I am run Crower 62403 with oem retainers and Crower Spring without problem.

The question is about the 62404 with stock retainers. The 62404 make power near the 7500 rpm.

However, a stock type r have steel retainers, not titanium retainers and the fuel cut is about 9000 rpm...

You will get people on both ends of this story. The oem retainers could handle it but for how long? The retainers for the 403's are the same for the 404's from Crower. i was running up to 7300 on the Ti retainers with no problems. You would have to ask someone who has stayed with the oem retainers to see if they had any problems.

you can use kms retainers, which are the same as supertech, and can hold up to 11,000 rpms.

i see you're chilean. if you need to make a question in spanish, or need me to translate, send me a private message.

Thanks. But KMS don“t make B18B steel retainers. In fact actually nobody make steel retainers for B18B, only for vtec engines...
I do not want to check my titanium retainers every year...maybe OEM is my option for a DD use. In fact oem type r steel retainers can run over 8500 rpm...B18b and B18C OEM retainers are not the same part, but both are steel retainers...

I'm running oem retainers on my supertech springs in my built gsr, rev to 9k rpm daily, over 55k miles since the build and last month I pulled a few off to check, and they still looked great, no abnormal wear. However, when I had some TI S2 retainers, they cracked after only 35k miles. Research metalurgy and look at the benefits of TI or Steel. I've had lots of builders recommend me OEM retainers for Daily Drivers. TI is lighter, but meant for race engines, that are often broken down and rebuilt much more ofter than a Daily Driver.
