I'm currently in the process of building a b18a for my 99 CRV. My build thread on h-t simply got responses of "Should have gone turbo." "Should have gone vtec." "You're wasting your money." etc. I came across some really good prices for each part for my LS build and I'm really not interested in another turbo build right now. I'm contemplating a super charger in the future, and spray is likely, but for the most part I just want to get this car built. I'm curious how the current build looks to you guys.

The current list of parts I'm currently working with are listed below.

Blox? intake mani
Mild port on the head
Hondata IM gasket
Crower 403
ARP Head Studs
11:1 pistons
Eagle Rods
mic'd crank
GSR water pump
type-r oil pump

I'm sleeving the block since cylinder 3 is nearly 1mm larger than the piston and oval. I'm also contemplating the idea of doing larger valves.

A few questions:

What timing belt will I need to run with this gsr/type-r/ls head combo?

How will the Blox flow with the 403's and 11:1? I'm throwing the idea around of building an equal length header since finding a decent header for the awd may be an issue. Will I be over flowing, under flowing, or around the target? I suppose I could rock an ITB setup if it would be ideal for this cam/compression combo.

Gates Racing T247RB Timing Belt for vtec
Gates Racing T184RB Timing Belt for non-vtec

The Blox Intake manifold is just a standerd Type-R clone and flows as such
Miny people run the same style intake and cam combo with higher comp. pistons so should work grate

You should also get better valve springs other wise with any bigger cam at higher RPMs you risk your valves floting

but if your thinking of super charger or spray id go with a lower comp. piston like some 9.5 or lower any kind of boost or spray works best with low comp. pistons with the 11.1 pistons you would just never get the best out of your super charger

and hay if you can get bigger or better valves that should be a must the more air you flow the more power you make

you should look into a 255 fuel pump and also alittle bigger fuel injectors and or having your ecu remaped

Thanks for the reply!

I forgot to mention I'll also be purchasing cam gears and a BC valve spring/retainer set.

I've got a set of 50lb injectors from my turbo Zetec project.. I'm pretty sure they're completely over kill for NA but they were decent to tune with NA on my Zetec, wonder how they would be on this motor? I'm trying to decide between picking up an AEM standalone or simply taking the hondata route. I've tuned with AEM before so it might be a little more comfortable for me, but seems the hondata does some great things for a somewhat "normal" setup.

As for super charger, that's far in the future. I'm really not feeling running boost, but I haven't done a super charger setup before and it seems like it would be perfect for the bigger CRV. As for the nitrous, I'm pretty comfortable running spray on a somewhat high compression motor, but I'll definitely be taking it slow to learn the motor.

As puggy said if you are looking to go with a supercharger go with a lower compression setup.
AEM has quite a some advantages over hondata. However it all comes down to your tuner. If you are going to tune yourself and you know AEM, by all means go with the system you are comfortable with.

haha no high comp/boost adventure here?! Yea yea.. I'm definitely understanding of the low compression for boost though.

I'll leave the supercharger talk out of this thread for a year at least haha.

I'm going to let the ECU situation play itself out for what becomes available when the time comes to start it up. I think that will be the best bet for right now, and if I see that I'm in need of something else maybe I'll switch.

if you plan on spraying, go with Hondata. It's perfect for spray as it retards the timing on its own and only engages when certain perameters are met. Sweetness.

So took a little longer than I hoped, but I just got a delivery from Darton. I'll be dropping my block here shortly for some work.
