can you throw the p8r head on a b18b1 with stock bore? i know the combustion chamber on the p8r head is 84 mm, but i think it will be good as long as i use the b20 head gasket. i am using this on the hatch i just bought with the turbo and the head gasket i have is the 85mm cometic head gasket because thats the only size they have for the b20. any info would be helpful... thanks

i really dont think it would work out. it may though. reason i say it wont work is. if you take the b20 head gasket and lay it on the ls block. it looks like it would be a problem with the water ports from the head to the block. if it does work it will probably limit the amount of flow from the head through the gasket to the block. or which ever way it may flow.

I did it just because I wanted a swap. The only thing i had at the time was a b18b block and the p8r head, using 81mm headgasket. It ran fine for a dd. Remember I said dd not a regular weekend race car. I took it to the track just to see what it did. Bone stock, no upgraded to the motor in a 92 honda civic cx ran 14.9 @98 mph. Not bad I guess. 6 months later i sold the motor to my buddy. The motor lasted 4 yrs till it finally spun a bearing. He didn't watch his oil level and well you get the point. This is just from experienced

the combustion chamber is 84mm i think. So with the ls being 81mm one would assume a drop in compression with the increase in chamber size and no other variable change.

so some say it will work and some say it will not..... i might try it... a drop in comp won't hurt with a turbo

there is a change from what i know the p8r head has diffrent valves the same size as a vtech head.and i have put a p75 head on my b18 befor and it did lower the comp.but i used the b20 head gasget and had no problom.and from what i can tell my p8r head gasget and my p75 head gasget are identacal. i am doing this same thing right now but i am fully building for n/a.
