I had been doing some research on increasing power to my '99 D16Y7 in my '97 del sol and I saw that others said that the engine is only good for 220 horsepower (apparently a few peoples Y7's shot their rods through the motor.)
Just wondering if this is true...or if the people just had TERRIBLE motors.

ive seen stock d series boosted put down 220whp...on a good tune and also if they dont treat their motor like shit..it really comes down to if you know the limits of the motor and the do's/donts

the stock rods on d series motors are just weak thats all thay were never mint to make much power 200-220hp is about it for a stock motor but you can get aftermarket rods i-beam or h-beam rods that can handle 500+hp
