i asked this question in the old site i did everything that people told me to try and it is still doing it but not i dont think it is as bad as before. what it is doing is while im driving at say about 70 mph it drops down to about 0 while im driving, or when i take off from a light and im accelerating it will either not go up at all for a while or will but then drop down very soon so i have to go by rpm and gear to figure out about what speed im going. it gets sort of annoying. can anybody tell some other stuff i may want to try. the last time people told me to check my grounds so i did. since it began doing it again i have checked my grounds and they all seemed fine. should i check my wiring behind the speedometer? is my speedometer going bad? if anyone has any tips or something please help.

That sucks. Bump for your thread. Um theres a place around here that does speedo calibration, maybe a place around there could trouble shoot it? I would def. say check EVERYTHING possible to do with it,it could be something very minor

thanks man. i have checked everything that i know of or can see, except wires in the dash. every ground is fine. no loose connections anywhere in wires i can see. i may try and see about a place that could maybe trouble shoot it i am sure i can find something here around the Charlotte area. if anyone on here knows of anybody that would maybe be able to help me out that is around the Charlotte area please let me know. it is getting very frustrating though. if i have i have to get a new speedometer then i think i may try and do a S2000 gauge cluster but i dont know about that, it depends how much longer i will have the car.

i do not believe it is throwing any codes.

Check the speedometer cable behind the cluster if its a little lose it can do that. It won't throw a code unless it's completely unplugged. Another thing u can do is loosen up the instrument cluster and push it back a little and see if you can't get it on there more and see it that works. Worst case scenerio is that you have to replace the speedo.

i honestly never thought of checking the cable for it being loose. its probably 1 of the first things i should have checked. i have checked grounds just to see if it was like that maybe. it stopped for a few months and when it started again i did the same thing but did not help any. so thanks a bunch i will check it soon as i get a chance.

You're car is electric VSS... there is no cable man. You can check the plugs, but since it is a electric speedometer... if the plug is loose other things would be having issues too... things that are pinned into the same pin as you VSS signal wire is.

Did that make sense?

I guess you could pull the cluster and maybe swap it out for a one that doesnt mess up?

well about 1 week ago i replaced my fuel filter and i took off the negative battery wire off so it would kill everything just for safety and then after i was done i hooked it back up and i was driving around and the problem with the speedometer has got worse. i thought maybe it would get a little better as time went on but a week later (driving everyday) it is still just as bad as it was after i hooked the battery back up.

Change out your speed sensor, cheap at a scrap yard.
