So after the snow strom we recently had up here in MA my friend noticed my rear bumper sagging a bit. I check it out and realize that where the bumper connects to the quarter panel has rotted out. Now i am wandering if they can just cut out a part of the quarter panel and weld in a nex peice or if i am going to have to replace the entrie panel, which will be rather expensive? and i do not have the tools to do it my self. But mabye this is my chance to respray the whole car

just find a different way to mount it. maybe a metal strap with 2 screws to hold it to the body and 2 to hold it to the bumper

but what i am really wandering is whether or not i could have a shop just cut out the rot and put in a peice of sheet metal and weld it. I saw something along those lines on Spikes Trucks. It would be alot cheaper than replace and painting a whole quarter panel. Has anyone heard of people doing it? like i ssaid i will get wsome picks up soon.

i dont see why they couldnt do it like that. its done all the time on classic cars that are being restored. i dont think a honda would be much different.

yea you shouldn't have any problems cutting out the rotted piece and replaceing it. the only thing that will get in the way of fixing the problem is the unibody. but since you said it was your bumper that shouldn't be a problem. definately try grinding away some of the rot and spray it with some primer, colored rustoleum, to help prevent the cancer from spreading. also a good tip for rear quarters and wheel wells. is to remove the black body strip around the wheel wells. it holds water and grime. mix that with salt from the winter roads and they will rot lickety split. i have cancer starting around my wheel wells too. pluss it didn't help much that some asshole side swiped my car while itwas parked. on my drivers side rear corner. now my bumper sags a little and rust is starting.

thnx a lot man, in ever thought about taking that black thing out. I have been off these forums for a while i am looking to get a new car MK# Supra of SR20 240SX but i will always have a spot for my HONDA lol. I am def thinking of cutting out the rot and welding in a new peice cause my buddy just got a mig welder so i could weld it and grind it to the best of my ability and have the body shop finish it up. So u suggest taking those black guard things out?
