got a b18a1 nonvtec i wanna have the head rebuilt cleaned and so on. but dont know where to go...anyone have a good shop to send it to? also what all should be replaced on it when i put it back together, i got stage 2 skunk2 cams, aem cam gears, and new head gasket. any performance valves or retainers or anything?

skunk2 doesn't make cams for the non vtec head .... try crower or crane there good.. i prefer crane ....they don't crack

get ferrea valves dvs and titanium retainers and a 3 angle valve job and your good or get it pnp for better results ....

that sucks, skunk2 makes some good cams, o well, then i'm gettin crane...whats the diff. between the stages like 1 2 and so on?

I might be wrong but I think the difference between a stage 1 and stage 2, etc cam would be... lift and duration... possibly overlap... I dunno.

There are a few things to figure out when choosing a cam. Are you going to open the motor up at all?

Power is distributed like this.

20% made by mods in the shortblock
    mainly compression bump
    bore increase
    stroke increase
    stronger parts for higher rev limits

80% made by mods in the head
    cams
    lighter valve train components for higher rev limits
    valve size
    porting/polishing
    port matching

stuff you need to think about before choosing parts.

I think the first two stages from crane will work with stock valve train and an otherwise stock engine.

Are you planning on boosting or all motor? I'm guess all motor since you mention skunk 2. Try these website, they have the spec. Couldn't really find any spec on crane camshaft.

thanks man, this motor will be all motor, i have another b18a1 in my shop i am slowly building for turbo, dont know a whole lot bout the builds on motors, so i appreciate all the help and hope you guys can keep helping me on the build. just kinda learning on my own as i go.
