With a b18a1 should you shift at 7? or should you shift at 6300 because acura says that 6300 is at its most power at 140hp?? so why go past 6300 then?? any help?

It took about a year but I think it was more my fault. I knew it burned oil and I took it out one day and now it has a slight knock at high rpms. That's good though, now I can add ARP rod and head bolts and raise the compression when I have it rebuilt.

You go past to get the most power under the curve... you want to go slightly past the power peak in most cases so that your upshift falls right back to just before the power peak. Look at a power graph and see how many rpms you're going to use in each gear, then look and see what the best way is to stay at the highest average power level through the WHOLE gear. For most engines, you'll shift AFTER the power peak.

You have to ge the car dyno'd to see where you stop making power. but go a tad past the drop off point and shift, that way you will be able to keep it up in the next gear. With a stock ls on a b18a you should probably shift around 6300-6400. With a b18b and cams i only made power to 6800 so with ur engine stock shift around 6400 or so.

what i dont get is how a stock b18a1 is revving to 7k. with out some kind of ecu work to remove the fuel cut off. or rev limiter.. and if you didnt have the work done to let it rev to 7k. then the last owner did and id be kinda leary of that motor.

Moved to appropriate forum... also modified title to direct attention appropriately. I thought this thread was related to Red Line Lubricants...

I tryed shifting at 6400 and noticed a little more pull back in the seat (could be all in my mind) but I tryed it. I was wondering with all you non vtec guys what do you do? Shift at 6400 or red line?

I usually bounce 1st off the rev limiter, second @7100, 3rd @7000 and have never maxed out 4th LOL. HOWEVER, when I was NA I shifted her at about 6700. Beyond that I just felt like I was reving for no reason.
