I'm an OEM kind of guy. I know that there are bad ass parts out there that make a lot of power for not much money. But I think there is no replacement for HOP (Honda Original Parts). So I want more power out of my all stock B18A1. If I simply bolt up a head from a B18B1 w/TB/IM/Cams all stock. Would I get a decent gain out of this? Would I still need to buy the 403's with the complete valve train to feel any decent power?

honestly you would not see any significant power gains from it...maybe 5hp at the most and if you want more power you need to upgrade your head with valvetrain, cams etc...but also upgrade the block too like high comp. pistons to get real power gains out of the 403's

in past research ive learned the heads are the same
the cams are pratically the same
the throttle body, the same.

so, its all practically the same

if you wanna make power, you gotta spend cash wisely, not waste it.

if you did all this work, you'd make maybe 5hp more, if that.

so, dont was the time. if the motor is stock and healthy, pull the cams, replace with some 404's. while its apart, pull the intake manifold, replace with skunk2 or blox. also, drop the valve springs and retainers for some brian crower units...

note - you can not use any internal from a vtec head in your head, so yea dont bother.

I read on HT that the B18B1 has 11+ more HP because it's head, .2" larger cam lobe's and better flowing IM and TB.

If I use the 404's I'm gonna have to raise the compression or it won't idle right. Right?

CAms do not have 2" more lift, maybe .002" of lift and possibly duration change...

IM is different, TB's are 58mm or 60mm's...

you can run 404's with stock bottom end... but yea, bump in compression wont hurt.

yeah, not 2" but .2" so if I use just the IM and TB I will get better results and won't need to use the hole head?

The B18A was rated at around 130hp and the B18B was 142hp, the cams did account for some of that.

True that. And I know it's more than cams as well. I think the intake manifold has a lot to do with it as well.

Cams, IM, EM and it being OBD1 had a shit load to do with it. 90-91 LS head and the 92-93 LS head are the same.

I know the casting changed somewhat, but I dont remember what exactly changed.

valves all stayed the same size, still had single valve springs, lift was pretty much the same through out the years. except the auto cams werent as good as the manuals...
