well, last thursday i was drivin through wisconsin dells for work. damn timing belt tensioner failed and well, interference engine. had 4 bent valves which i thought was gunna be way worse. anyway im gunna build the head now. ordered a Gates timing belt, cometic HG, hondata IMG, and arp head studs to start with. the head is gunna be reuseable, so im having them crack test it and clean it. Im gunna be ordering full brian crower valvetrain but havent decided on cams yet but more than likely stage 2. anyone got an idea of how many degrees to retard the timing? or should i just clay the motor n figure it out?

i would clay the motor and figure that out first or have someone else do it...i know a lot of ppl dont really take the time to do something like that but it will be worth your while to just cuz if you bring it to a turner you can tell them the limits of adv/ret on your cams and you could see big power gains off of that.

awesome yeah im gunna just clay it then. another question, lets say i dont get cams right away. will the aftermarket valvetrain work with stock cams? i know i wont see any power gains im just wondering if its safe.....

yea they will work...with aftermarket valvetrain it will be nosier so dont freak out

coooll. any other misc. parts im missing? i also got a new water pump coming along with full head gasket set.

a lil update. received the HG, IMG, Arp HEad Studs, and timing belt yesterday. 2day i ordered the BC springs/retainers/valves/stage 2 cams, Blackworks cam gears, PWJD cam seals, and Phearable.net chipped OBD1 ecu w/ jumper harness. expensive day lol but will be worth it.

im pissed. i've been waiting on my valves for 2 weeks. ive had everything else to put my motor back together and the vendor i bought my valvetrain through didnt have the valves in stock. they didnt bother to tell me that until after i bought the setup from them which sucked ass cuz i need my car back together asap. so they say that they're going to have the valves shipped straight to me from crower but then i get an email from the vendor saying that they are shipping them yesterday. so i have to wait even longer. pretty gay but yeah...should have things started next week. ill keep updating.

a little update. So i got super lucky and got my valves on new years eve. I pulled up to my house right when the ups guy did. So i finally get to start doin some work after over a month of waiting on parts I just need to get some clay and i'll have everything i need.

Started lapping the valves yesterday. With some luck ill have this bish done beginning of next week. booyah

valves, springs, and retainers are in. need to find the charger for my cameras battery. got a busy week so not sure if it'll be done this week but nxt week its done for sure. damn i miss driving my car- its been like a month and a half since ive been behind the wheel

head is complete! clayed the motor yesterday. clearance wont be a problem at all. we advanced both int and exh 4* to start with and we'll see how that works and go from there.

nice progress

had a little set back... one of the bolts for the water pump snapped off like a f*ckin toothpick the other day...good news is that we were able to get it out so problem resolved there. Should be putting the head back on today..ordered new belts and spark plugs today so gotta wait on those the get it runnin. we borrowed a wideband so were gunna hook that up and check the afrs...they should be fine though with the 4* advancement on both sides right?

o and i have another q.... i believe the basemap i got for the ecu is for 87 octane. will the car run decent with premium in there? or do i need to get it tuned on 91 octane to get it running right? ( carbon build up like a mother in the head so im trying to avoid that)

yea the car will run decent on premium, but on the other hand getting it tuned will make the best of your motor

o for sure gettn it tuned....gunna get Hondata here in a couple weeks. should i send my ecu back to phearable to have them install the hondata like they did the chip? or is it decently simple to install?

no you need to soder stuff together and such...just outta curiosity where are you in WI? cuz kingmotorsports is in New berlin, WI

im about 3 hours from there. id really like to get my car over to them for tuning in the spring. can i tune my chip with hondata? or should i go with Crome or something along those lines that'll be compatable with the chip?
