cost pretty much depends on who you know. if you got a buddy that can do it, that probably be the way to go. if you trust their work. a regular mechanic. probably good into the hundreds. try to use some p30 pistons. use ctr's you will be rebuilding that motor more than once.

yea the compression is really high and if you use some bigger cams the piston to valve clearance is very very small...just use p30's they will yield around 11.5:1

im not sure about the piston to valve clearance on stock b18b cams but y would you wanna put stock cams in a motor with that kinda compression?...you have to understand that about 20% of your power comes from the block and about 80% from the head...u need big cams to get good power on that compression

What sucks about the piston swap is that some machine shops will destroy at least one set of pistons when they're pressing them apart.

So, if you can try to find whatever pistons you wanna use already off the rods. You'll need to use the LS rods. Since its going to be apart, I would have the rod bolts removed and replaced w/ARP units. The big end of the rods will need to be retrued cuz they will go out of round.

These are estimated local pricing for the machine work involved.

OEM Honda bottom end gasket set - $50
Hone - 60 ($15/cylinder)
ARP install + reconditioning $70
ITR pistons pressed onto LS rods - $50
OEM Honda Rod Bearings - $75
OEM Honda Main Bearings - $95
OEM Honda thrust washer - $13

Looks to be about $400 for a relatively stock rebuild. But, it would make zero sense to put a stock LS head on the block w/Stock cams... so what do you plan on doing about that. To keep it cheap, some valve train is in line. If you don't assemble the engine, then you have to figure that in there too. Goin rate in my area is about $400 for a bottom end build.

OEM Honda Headgasket - $65
OEM Honda VC gasket set - $30
Crower 62403's w/springs and retainers - $500
Greddy Timing Belt - $125
OEM water pump and tensioner - $125

The you've got tuning and the conversion to OBD1 cuz tuning on OBD0 is relatively stupid.

OBD1 Dist. - $100
OBD1 PR4/P75 - $50
ECU Jumper - $75
Tune on Crome/Uberdata Call your local dyno shop - $125/HR probably looking at at least 2 hrs on the dyno, I'm sure theres someone in your area who can street tune too... sometimes thats cheaper.

I'm really anal about using OEM parts on my build, so my prices are kinda high. You can however get the pump and tensioner through a local parts place as well as the gasket kits to save some dough.

Let us know how it goes. call a machine shop in your area and find out prices on the hone, arp install and reconditioning of the rods as well as the piston swap.
