Allright so i am new to the site but not to hondas. Unfortunitly i am new to b-series. I have only built single d's and one dual d and one sw20 so bear with me.

i just aquired a b18a1 ls block from a 91. got it with low compression most likely shot rings so i am going to do a full rebuild on it.

but i want to know what everyones thoughts are on building the ls as is or go ls-v with it..i know this is a non-vtec site but im sure most of you have had experiences with both.

also how reliable is the bottom end what pistons/rod combo ect... would you guys/girls recomend. im not going to touch the head until i decide on which route i want to take. this is going in my 91 crx hf and the motor in it is fine so i am not on any deadline i am going to take this slowly for reliability. my goals are 250-270whp. nothing to outrageous.

so any input on what you would do and what parts.

thanks
stuart

The b18 is a killer motor and probably one of my favorites. They say the bottom ends are safe to 300 with good tuning. I have ran mine at 10 psi for a year and a half and the motor ran great when I pulled it. I say while you were in there the only thing I would change from oem would be the pistons do to imo they are the weakest point.

I dont think youre going to make 240-270 w/stock parts unless you boost. Even then, I dont see an LS doing so on the stock powerband.

Rods/Pistons? I say CP pistons and Eagle Rods.

Other than that, you're good on the bottom end. Get everything balanced. If longevity is most important to you, I'd say rebuild with OEM Honda bearings, gaskets and ARP main studs.

240-270 is not attainable all motor... on an LS. So, youre most definitely going to have to boost.

please tell me your talking about a turbo build?

its pretty hard to make a recommendation when we dont even know if its going to be a turbo motor or all motor.
