shop will still tune you if they want the money. Vtec is just a hype. If a shop told you that I wouldn't go there.

We need to not get into bench racing here. The thing is there's a Japanese saying that answers the OP's first question, "NO TUNE, NO LIFE". It doesn't really matter if you are racing with an LS or H22 or even an LS/Vtec, the truth is an entire win can come down to the shear tune on a car. 5 years ago 200 HP on a stock boosted LS tuned with an APEX'i was amazing and now we see CROME tuned stock boosted LS's making 300-325. With that being said you tell me is tuning really a waste of time for anything?

Yes there are books and no it isn't easy. Take from personal experience you either have the talent to tune or you don't. It is a Trial and Error thing you'll learn more by doing unfortunately when dealing with the electronic inner workings of an internal combustion engine it doesn't take but a few seconds to really screw up a motor.

my old b1 with a 4-1 header, blox IM and aem intake made 124/110, we chipped the ecu, did about an hour street tune, and about 6 pulls on the dyno, tuning with crome, I made 139.99/123

adjusting timing and fuel is never a bad thing. Nonvtecs are easier to tune so I've been told. We used a b16 base map, and built from there.

my wifes had the same result, she is just a header intake, but she went from 115/105 to 128/115...

Yeah... what he said. Are there any good resources on the net that can get me started in learing how to tune. I'm talking the basics (everybody started not knowing anything). I looked around on pgmfi.com. I didn't find anything that just started with the basics.
