I'm looking to build a B-series OBD0 (non v-tec) all motor for my 87 CRXsi.
What I would like is a combination that will give me the most power in the low-to-mid rpm range.

Can anyone suggest a recipe of parts that will give me kickin performance without having to constantly wind it up to redline? I like the low/mid range grunt!

I just need a suggestion of which Block/Pistons/Head/Cams/etc.. to use to accomplish this build.

Thanks for any info!

I've decided to upgrade to OBD1 using rywire's harness. I don't like wiring so I decided to pay the extra ca$h to have them fuss with the wiring.

So...for low end torque/horsepower, which block/piston/head/crank/cam combo should I use?

Should I stick with any stock parts like intake manifold or cams? All the dyno sheets I see for aftermarket parts seems to raise the horsepower in the high rpm range.

I agree B20Z more tq and higher compression. Put a Vtec head on it and you have low end tq and high power as well. Dont believe the dyno sheets from parts sellers. Building a B20 for good power, 84mm ITR pistons, ARP rod bolts, balance the bottom end, Type R style intake mani, a Tri-Y header and 2.5inch exhaust. For the head if you use a non Vtec head then get a good P&P, stage 2-3 cams are good for the street, upgraded valve spring and retainers should get you around 180whp. Give a Vtec head the same treatment and you can get over 200whp. HP numbers are just a ruff guess, each motor and set up is different,
