i read somewhere that full synthetic is not good for honda's because it does something to the valves. is that correct? it is the first time i have ever heard anything like that. i have always used Mobile 1 Full Synthetic in all my cars and its what my uncle recommends and he runs it in his race cars and i have also seen other people say they use it on here (might have been the old site). i dont really see a difference between honda valves and any other valves as to why there would be a negative effect with full synthetic oil. i am just wondering if anyone else has heard this and if so, i would like to see some proof of those negative effects. and also what oil do all of you guys run?

i am really interested to see how many people use the Mobile Full Synthetic and how many people have heard what i read about it not being good for a honda engine. Mobile 1 has been my choice for awhile now except for last time i had a quick lube do it because i had no time. i forget where i read it at or what i was even looking for but i found it and started to read. to me it seems like BS. i also figured if any other members had any questions about motor oil and what other would recommend then they could just look here. and also if mobile 1 really does have negative effects on a honda engine i figured others on here might like to know.

I use Amsoil 10w30 in the Prelude, castrol GTX in the Civic. Still change oil at 3000, cause acid buildup is the enemy. Both engines have new oil seals but I dont feel like throwing much money at the civic - and castrol comes from good basestock anyways.

I would be weary of switching to synthetic on old oil seals, and if you do then watch for new leaks!

I've never ran Mobil 1 full syn but I've heard good things.

has anyone else read where mobile 1 full synthetic can damage the valves? i know mobile 1 is good oil and i have never seen proof of this damage but i read it on like 2 sites. no clue what sites they were though.

i thought synthetic was for only high milage engines but i don't know much about oil. i usually stayed with 10w-30 castrol when i had the teg. stayed full synthetic with my beater subaru because it had damn near 200k on it

synthetic is for any application were you want to reduce wear and friction and have oil that withstands heat better and lasts longer.

wow...a lot of you really don't care too much about your motors...

I've been running Amsoil Series 2000 TSO 0w30 full synthetic for the past 3 oil changes. Before that was Amsoil 5w30 and before that Castrol Syntec (right after I bought my car).

there are also virtually no facts behind that myth that synthetic is bad for honda motors...don't know where that came from
